There’s a new Formula 1 movie speeding toward Apple TV+, and while it promises all the action, adrenaline, and tyre smoke you’d expect, there’s one scene that’s really got our attention: a laundromat packed with Speed Queen machines.
The film - simply titled F1 - features Brad Pitt as a veteran driver making a dramatic return to the track with a fictional team called APXGP. The trailer is all high-stakes energy: roaring engines, pit lane politics, and fierce rivalries. But nestled between the high-octane glamour is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot of pure cinematic brilliance: Pitt’s character in a classic laundromat lined wall-to-wall with Speed Queen washers. Watch out for it – only a few seconds from the start of the trailer.
Now, we’re not saying the film will pivot entirely into the world of commercial laundry… but honestly, if it did, we’d consider it a strong creative choice.
Of course, this isn’t Brad Pitt himself doing his laundry - it’s his character, who just happens to be surrounded by some of the hardest-working machines in film. And while most audiences will be glued to the racetrack, we’ve already picked our favourite scene - and it’s the one with stainless steel, perfect balance, and no pit stops required.
And really, it makes sense. Both F1 cars and Speed Queen washers and dryers are built for performance, precision, and endurance. One does laps at 300km/h. The other does tens of thousands of cycles without breaking a sweat. One exerts up to 6G’s on the driver, the other up to 400G’s on your clothes. But the differences? Ours don't need a pit crew every 30 minutes, and our machines don't create skid marks, they remove them.
Speed. Grit. Stainless steel.
It’s about time the real stars of the mechanical world got some screen time!
