When installs go bad...

Oct 28, 2022 | Advice

Correct installation of commercial laundry machines might not be glamorous, but it's a critical step when revolutionising your laundry system. Much like finding the ideal laundromat location, or designing your business's laundry process, installation can seem daunting and complicated. But that's where our local distributors are here to help!

Cutting corners never pays off when installing commercial laundry equipment.  Do it once, do it right.

Not only will you avoid immediate damage, but you can avoid premature wear and tear of components that will potentially void your warranty.

When installs go bad...

90% is an astonishing statistic, but it makes sense when you think about it. Washers and dryers have lots of complex moving parts with several crucial inputs and outputs.

One example of this is the water inlet hose on a commercial washer. This hose contains a small mesh cover that looks a bit like a thimble. This mesh cover ensures that the water flow does not become blocked by particles. However, if placed incorrectly (face down is wrong, face up is right) the cover can have the opposite effect, blocking your washer's water system and preventing it from cycling. This is an easy mistake to make for the untrained installer.  There are other mistakes we see, some with more dire consequences.

A much more severe example of poor installations is with hard-mount machines. In case you missed it, hard-mount machines have no internal suspension systems, meaning they MUST be firmly attached to a solid floor. If they are not, they risk tearing both themselves, and the floor they are attached to, apart.

Hard-mount installation is more complicated than simply bolting the commercial washer to a concrete floor. Special kinds of bolts called chemical anchors must be used (rather than mechanical anchors or dynabolts). These kinds of anchors are far stronger and more flexible than the alternative, which is necessary when dealing with the extreme rotational forces of a commercial washer. We've seen many examples of hard-mount plinths being destroyed from a mistake as simple as using the wrong kind of bolts.
