The Speed Queen team recently attended the National Caravan Conference at the RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast, connecting with holiday park operators and discussing one of the less glamorous, but very important parts of the guest experience: laundry!
It is easy to overlook laundry facilities when planning or upgrading a park. Nobody books a holiday park because the laundry room looks exciting - but they certainly remember it when the dryer gives up halfway through a load of beach towels.
For parks dealing with constant turnover, sandy towels, wet weather, family travel, and long-stay guests, laundry rooms quietly become one of the most heavily used shared spaces on site.
That is why most operators avoid domestic equipment and choose compact commercial systems designed specifically for high-use environments. As we highlight in our laundry product guide for holiday parks, operators are increasingly looking for machines that are reliable, easy to use, space-efficient, and capable of handling the daily demands of busy parks.
The guide also highlights some of the practical realities holiday parks face:
- humid and coastal environments
- limited laundry room footprints
- seasonal surges in demand
- guest expectations around convenience and payment options
One trend continuing to accelerate is the shift toward cashless systems. Coin-operated laundries still exist, but more guests now expect tap-and-go payments, app-based systems, and fewer friction points during their stay. Cashless systems can also reduce staff time spent handling coins while improving convenience for guests and operators alike.
Another area attracting attention is remote monitoring and machine visibility. Cloud-based systems such as Speed Queen Insights allow operators to remotely access machine performance data and streamline support. For parks spread across large sites or regional locations, visibility into machine status can become increasingly valuable during peak periods.
Of course, not every park needs a large commercial laundry. In many cases, the goal is simply to create a laundry room that:
- works reliably
- is easy for guests to understand
- handles seasonal demand
- does not become a source of complaints
Sometimes the best laundry room is the one guests barely think about. In accommodation, invisible reliability is often the highest compliment.
The National Caravan Conference gave the Speed Queen team the opportunity to speak with holiday park, caravan park, and guest accommodation operators about practical commercial laundry solutions. If you missed them, Dale and Graham are sure to be there again next year!
